Join us at the ICCAS – International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding 2024!

Fincantieri NexTech is pleased to announce its participation at the International Conference on Computer Applications in Shipbuilding – ICCAS 2024. The conference will be held in Genoa, Italy, from September 10th to 12th 2024.

At ICCAS 2024, we will present a paper entitled “Situational Awareness System for Maritime Scenarios: Description of a Practical Solution and the Lessons Learnt from its Installations.” The paper is authored by Emanuele Sansebastiano, Agnese Bruschi, Erika Maggi, Andrea Pecoraro, Luca Tardioli, Giacomo Tognetti, and Fabio Valenti.

The paper details Fincantieri NexTech’s solution to the problem of gathering surrounding information to guarantee sufficient situational awareness for self-sailing vessels. The first step in designing a situational awareness system (SAS) is selecting the sensors that collect raw environment data. Choosing a sufficiently wide suite of sensors (cameras, Lidar, radar, etc.) is very important, but the design team must be aware that placing too many sensors can be counterproductive for both sensor maintenance and required computational power. Moreover, installing more sensors means a higher initial investment.
